Active Travel Options in Asia

Asia is brimming with active options for those who love to be outside. From jungle treks to cycle journeys to mud-slinging festivals, one can experience.

E-biking through Shikoku, Japan
This is an excellent option for those who like to be gently active. Explore modern cities and old towns, marvel at cherry blossoms, tea plantations, forests, and temples. Each day spend 3-4 hours riding, then enjoy the destination by a soak in natural hot springs, walking through quaint towns, meeting the locals, and of course, delighting in the cuisine. No early starts, no full days of riding, this is a comfortable activity!

Mekong Boat and Bike Adventure, Saigon to Siem Reap
Explore the ancient temples of Angkor Wat and the mighty Mekong River with its many intriguing ports on a combined Bike and Boat Cruise Tour stretching downstream from Siem Reap to Saigon. This is an inspired concept – alternate sailing down the Mekong River with exploring on land by bicycle.

Trekking, Northern Thailand
Trek through the mountains in Chiang Dao in the north, whatever your fitness level. Trekking is the perfect way to discover Thailand’s magnificent wildlife, with many rare species waiting to be discovered. Tours vary from fun group walks to intrepid off-the-beaten-track adventures, where you can learn jungle survival skills first-hand.

Climb Mt Fuji, Japan
Claim bragging rights and see the sunrise in the Land of the Rising Sun!  Hike from the 5th station to a mountain hut, rest for a few hours, and set out just after midnight in time to reach the top of Mt Fuji at dawn.  Return to the 5th station. This is a non-technical climb, a lot of fun, and pilgrimage.

Great Wall Marathon, China
The Great Wall Marathon is an annual race, traditionally held on the third Saturday of May along and on the Huangyaguan or Huangya Pass, Tianjin section of the Great Wall of China, East of Beijing. The course is much tougher than traditional marathons with participants challenged by 5,164 stone steps and many steep ascents and descents.

Caving, Thailand
Hidden among Thailand’s luscious jungles are some of the most beautiful caves in the world. A whole new world awaits, where natural stalactites and stalagmites are entangled in jungle twine. If you are not the type to squeeze yourself into tight places, don’t worry – there are plenty of caves that you can raft, kayak or walk into. Discover the magical temple cave of Phraya Nakhon in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, south of Hua Hin, or Phi Hua To Cave in Krabi.

What People are Saying

Traveled to Japan ~ East and Southeast Asia

We had a fabulous time. The hotels were great as were the tours. We enjoyed the private guides best. Every one of our private guides was fantastic and made sure that we got to do what we (Andy!) wanted to do. Our guide in Arashiyama changed things around so that Andy could go to the Monkey Park, which was not on our original itinerary, but something he decided he wanted to do. She even climbed the mountain with him after settling me in a coffee shop with a cup of coffee!! Summer, our guide in Shanghai, was fantastic, and even helped get us checked in at the airport when we left. The tours themselves were wonderful and we got a good taste of the cities we visited. Both of us are planning on returning to Japan and China again sometime in the future and I will certainly keep you in mind when the time comes. By the way, the tip that we probably appreciated the most was to fly premium economy. I don't know if we would have survived that trip if we hadn't!!

Thanks for your help!!

Loved this vacation with my family.

Excellent experience, the trip was fantastic, we didn’t have to worry about anything.
